    The BTD 500 offers both audio and communications capabilities so it can be used with a Bluetooth headset for communications applications.

    A Bluetooth dongle is a device used to provide a Bluetooth connection to a device that does not have inherent Bluetooth capabilities (via a built in Bluetooth chip) or does not have the appropriate Bluetooth capabilities.

  • How do I get a BTD 500 paired and working with a Compilot on a PC?

    To connect your BTD 500 Bluetooth Dongle and Compilot please follow these steps:

    1.) Insert the USB stick and pull it back out as soon as it lights up. Then reinsert the USB stick right away and it should start to blink red and blue which means it is in pairing mode now.
    2.) Now you need to put your Compilot into pairing mode.
    3.) After a few seconds the USB stick will pair with the Compilot and the USB light will go to solid blue.
    4.) The Compilot can only pair to two things at any time so if you already have it paired to your cell phone and TV or house phone then you will need to turn off one of those devices in order to create room for the BTD 500 USB dongle to pair up with it.
    5.) Once the two devices are paired you need to tell your PC that you wish to send all audio through the BTD 500 USB dongle. Right click the speaker symbol on your desktop next to the time and date in the bottom right hand side and a few options will pop up. Select "playback devices" and a list of audio devices will pop up in a little window. Find the Sennheiser BTD 500 USB dongle on that list and right click it then "set as default device" should be selected and a green check mark will show now next to the Sennheiser device.
    6.) Turn up the volume on your PC and now you should be good to go.

  • How do I put the BTD 500 in pairing mode?

    To put the BTD 500 in pairing mode insert the BTD 500 into the USB port, then remove the BTD 500 from the USB port and then immediately re-insert the BTD 500 back into the USB port. Once this process has been done the LED on the BTD 500 will flash alternating RED & BLUE to indicate pairing mode.

  • Why is there an audio delay when using a Bluetooth Dongle?

    Sometimes when utilizing a Bluetooth dongle (like the BTD 500 or BTD 800) Bluetooth dongle there may be a delay in the audio transmission. 

    The delay on Bluetooth speech/microphone transmission is caused by how the PC is utilizing the audio information it is being provided. For example when using the MM 500-X + BTD 500 in communication mode the two (2) devices toggle from the A2DP profile to the Handsfree Profile in order to run full duplex audio (this is not possible in A2DP). Here the latency is at about 20-40 m/s whereas the A2DP has latency of about 120 m/s so the issue is not latency.

    When dongle is introduced for the PC the PC only sees it as a sound card with input/output and the usage of these interfaces chooses the profile to be used between the dongle and the headset. The Handsfree profile is activated when it sees activity on the microphone path (communications). Hence when there is a delay in the microphone audio the problem MUST be within the PC platform and how it chooses to use the audio resource. The way to alter/resolve this would be to adjust the PC settings and how it interfaces with the dongle.

  • How does the Surround Sound adapter work?

    The USB adapter on the headset does not create surround sound (this is a common misconception). What the USB card does is take a surround sound signal created by the audio source and decodes it to reproduce a virtual surround sound in the headset.

    For example if you're playing a game and it has a surround sound soundtrack the headset can take that signal in and decode it to work properly with the headset. NOTE: The option to select the surround sound is only available if the game supports surround sound. If the game does not have a surround sound then the surround sound option is not able to be selected.

    NOTE: Selecting the headset as the playback device is done within the computer settings and selecting the sound format would be done in the game itself.
